I love Halloween. The trick or treating, the costumes, the jack ‘o lanterns, the scary movies. …I love a good spooky Halloween movie… What could be scarier than the spine-tingling sensation of horror films? Perhaps…could it be…managing your finances? *Cue the Psycho theme music.*
OK, OK, OK… I didn’t mean to scare you. Well maybe a little bit. It’s your money, and no matter how scary your finances may seem, they can be mastered. Being money smart isn’t complicated. It doesn’t require advanced courses in finance or expensive seminars. All it really requires is a basic understanding of the true fundamentals of successful personal money management. But looking at all that’s been happening with money, I realized that this straightforward formula has gotten lost. It’s time to find it again. That’s what Money Smart is all about.
Like you, I’ve had my share of scary financial ups and downs. Everything I did with money—and what money did to me and for me—gave me invaluable experiences that had nothing to do with financial experts or their advice. It’s mostly basic education and common sense, nothing spooky or complicated about that.
Learning to take control of your finances takes very few steps. Be honest with yourself and your financial situation, write down your goals, and begin to learn the basics of money management. It’s all on www.MoneySmartOnline.com and in the book Money Smart, and I know you can do it.
So, enjoy the holiday, go trick or treating, eat lots of Halloween candy, (it’s free!) and think about getting your finances together. Now I’ve got to pick out my Halloween costume. I want something REALLY scary this year. Any suggestions for me?
