The Reason People Fail at Debt Reduction

May 26, 2011by Ted Hunter

Why can’t you get out of debt? How long have you approached your debt and walked away feeling like it was an unsolvable problem?  Well you are not alone.  A large portion of Americans are significantly in debt and have been in debt for years.  So, what is the magic solution?

The truth is most people already know how to eliminate debt, but lack the motivation to begin this intimidating process.   Eliminating debt isn’t about knowing how; it’s about being motivated enough to make it happen. Here are some things to consider and to help get your motivation up.

QUALITY OF LIFE: People in debt, on average, spend the days of their lives far less happy than those without debt. The reality is that money has become the leading cause of unhappiness in our society, the leading cause of divorce, and even has a significant influence on long term health.

OPPORTUNITY: People in debt are far less able to take advantage of opportunities for job, career and lifestyle changes. Without the necessary financial resources, people are stuck where they are, unable to take advantage of the better future they could otherwise have had. For instance, it is hard to accept a better job in a new location without the money to cover the cost of moving and the down-time between positions.

FINANCIAL FREEDOM: Financial freedom, even just achieving a satisfactory retirement, is dramatically less likely for those that remain in debt for more than a few years. Eliminate debt, however, and the game changes completely. It should come as no surprise that seventy-five percent of Forbes’ richest people in the world say the best way to build wealth is to become debt free.

LEARNING THE TRUTH: Many people convince themselves the problem can only be solved by making more money.  Even those whose incomes grow, however, are usually conditioned to just keep spending more.  The truth is that most people already make enough money, what they need is to spend smarter.

The truth is that those who fail to address their debt problem will damage their future, quality of life, and happiness. In Money Smart I’ve laid out, in detail, how to reduce debt and the process is really quite straightforward.  With a commitment, it won’t take long to see results.  As more free money is directed at debt reduction each month, the reduction process begins to accelerate dramatically.  Anyone genuinely ready to get rid of their debt can make it happen.  Over a million people do it every year.  Be one of them.  Get motivated and start the process of getting rid of your debt today.
